Rob in Italy
Are you reading this? let me know...!

(day 2)

6-April-2002 (Saturday): Today, following a somewhat late rise, we had brioche in Michael's apartment, followed by a tour of the more residential area surrounding the apartment. Not far away, nestled between two park strips (along the lines of the Golden Gate's Panhandle), we ran into this dog park. It made me wish Gretchen could be here... she'd love it. Milan is a very dog friendly city. In fact, the sidewalks seem to be a bit more dog friendly than human friendly... (watch your step!) Also, in many locations, there are large dogs blocking the path, and no one seems at all concerned. We saw two very large Rotweilers blocking the passage through a sidewalk newsstand, and people just pushed their way through... not a single glare, not a single utterance of the word "mauling" or the name "Diane Whipple." I remember when it was like that in San Francisco...

Also today, we bought me a phone number (cell phone SIM card), with the plan of installing it in a cell phone later. Later, we met up with Peter and Daniele, two of Michael's friends and colleagues, for dinner at Grand Italia. Delicious! Peter rented me a spare cell phone of his, and Daniele provided an excellent tour of the local castle and the duomo.
