Arriving in Venice (day 20)

24-April-2002 (Wednesday): Today, I took the train to Venice. It's a very interesting railway station, in that when you get off the train, you're right there on the water... the buses and taxis are water buses and water taxis. That helps set the mood straight away, and you immediately realize you've entered another world. The picture above is what I saw leaving the station...

Venice truly is a magical place. It will be impossible to convey the subtleties of my impressions of Venice. From the moment I stepped off the train, I was enchanted.

And it get's even better! I was fortunate to get to meet up with Sue, who has been to Venice several times, and share the entire experience with her. We were able to find each other tonight on the steps of the Basilica in Piazza San Marco, just before sunset. Later in the evening, we enjoyed a very nice dinner at one of the many lovely restaurants that line the streets, alleys, and canals in Venice. There's no way I could possibly find my way back on my own!
